How do we know Bill Belichick is a brilliant mass-message tactician? The tight-end battle is a top storyline.

The buzz coming from Foxborough this summer has most recently not been about Tom Brady's knee (which ya know, is reconstructed). It's not about the mentality of the team (which ya know, missed the playoffs after an 18-1 '08) or about Michael Vick (who ya know, has been rumored to have a potential landing place here).

Instead it's about Ben Watson and whether he can beat out the rest of the big men for a starting tight end seat at the dinner table. Can Big Ben finally live up to his immense potential or is this the final flight for the first-round draft pick?

Bill is talking about it and as usual, not about a whole heck of a lot else. Therefore, it becomes a story. "Wait, Bill said Ben needs to step it up? Story: Backpage!"

The outcry from Fight Night at the Fens, is that Youk was a wuss for throwing his helmet at Rick Porcello. Yeah, the helmet toss probably cost him an extra game or two from league on the suspension. No, it didn't help his "Cowboy Up" rep. But it's not nearly the most egregios error of Youk's bum rush.

It's the heat of the moment, it's hard to keep emotions in check and it's obvious Youk wasn't ruminating for a few days, "How exactly should I handle it if I get struck on Tuesday night in the small of my back by a fastball?"

We should give him the pass on the helmet throw. But we can't give Youk a pass on Porcello actually turning the better grappling move.

Watch the replay. Youk bum rushes, Porcello side-steps, Youk engages and... Porcello shifts his weight and yanks Youk down. Yep. By the time they're falling on the ground, Youk is underneath a 20-something beanstalk pitcher. Youk needed to simply put his head down and piledrive Porcello to the turf, then find his ground move and make Porcello submit.
